    The FM-1 only has room for tiny samples, so 3.0 stops storing the record. SURF mode plays an endless record that is computed as you scratch it, from where the needle is and which WORLD you're in. Scratch back over a spot and it's the same sound again, like vinyl. And the band got heavier.

    Install: open the web installer in Chrome or Edge, plug the FM-1 in and press INSTALL. Or download numetal-pro-3.0.fwsc below and run python3 tools/fm1_install.py numetal-pro-3.0.fwsc. Rescue: hold OCT- while switching on.

    INFINITE SKRATCH

    • SURF mode, the fourth HOME mode: the keys are 27 spots on the endless record. Tap one to play its zone, hold it to scratch there in the STYLE.
    • Seven materials: AHHH (FOF vowels), CHIRP (sweeps and lasers), FM (bells, screeches), BYTE (bytebeat), DUST (SAM words shattered into grains), CHAOS (the logistic map), HISS (resonant noise).
    • WORLD (KNOB4, 0..99): a different record. Turning it mid-sound morphs what's under the needle.
    • FLOW (EDIT + KNOB2): from a battle record with crackly gaps to one continuous landscape.
    • SURF drift (EDIT + KNOB4): a held scratch wanders along the record while it loops.
    • ETERNAL SKRATCH: GLO (AUTO) in SURF mode, and the robot rides the record by itself.
    • The landscape screen: zones scroll by as mountains in their material's color, with a little surfer on the needle.
    • A hotter jog: about 2.5x further per click, 2.5x more again in SURF, easier throws.

    A harder band

    • 7-string drop A guitar (the new default tuning): a hotter three-stage amp, a deep mid scoop, root + octave chugs.
    • Whammy dives and pinch-harmonic squeals, usable in any riff.
    • Four new grooves: BRUTAL TRUTH (grind blast), BAD DAY (half time), SEASICK (the second guitar a half step sharp, sliding down) and DIVEBOMB. BOUNCE and B-BOY are gone; there are twelve grooves now.

    Also

    • MIDI clock over TRS: with SYNC on FOLLOW the FM-1 locks to clock, Start and Stop on the TRS jack as well as USB.
    • The manual has a new section on the sequencer: recording your own 16-step loop and clearing it with EDIT.
    • Saved 2.x settings carry over. The first boot of 3.0 sets the tuning to drop A once.
