    Profligacy 1.0.0 alpha 8

Profligacy is an independent AU, VST3, and standalone software instrument compatible with user-supplied Korg Prophecy firmware. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Korg.

    Changes in alpha 8

    • Reduced internal audio buffering, report the processing delay to the DAW for latency compensation, and keep MIDI and audio aligned across sample rates, changing buffer sizes, and long sessions.
    • Added deterministic faster-than-real-time rendering and VST3 prefetch support.
    • Hardened engine startup, shutdown, stopped-transport saves, and project/preset restoration so the first note and restored edit buffer are handled reliably.
    • Exposed Speed, Knobs 1-5, Wheels 1-2, and X/Y/Z as stable AU and VST3 host parameters. Panel gestures can now be recorded as DAW automation, external automation is mirrored by the panel, and the pitch wheel returns to center when a panel gesture ends.
    • Added the complete A00-B63 factory-program list to AU and VST3. DAW program automation and MIDI clips with Bank/Sub-Bank/Program fields now select the corresponding firmware patch, while project restore continues to preserve an edited sound rather than replacing it with its factory source.
    • Unified panel and host patch selection behind one safely paced, latest-wins firmware path. Rapid selections coalesce, transport seeks cannot bypass the safety interval, and externally selected patches update the panel display.
    • Refined the editor with rectangular value fills, a shared dark canvas, and clearer control state throughout the program view.
    • Expanded cross-platform regressions and packaged-plugin checks for latency, lifecycle, state restore, automation, and Program Change behavior.

    Supported systems

    • Native Apple Silicon (arm64)
    • macOS 15.0 or later
    • AU, VST3, and standalone formats
    • Experimental Windows x64 preview: VST3 and standalone

The macOS public alpha is ad-hoc signed. It is not Developer ID signed or notarized by Apple. The Windows preview is unsigned and may trigger SmartScreen. Verify the release asset's published SHA-256 before installing either package.

    Firmware

Korg firmware is not distributed with Profligacy. On first launch, use the built-in folder picker to select a directory containing either:

    • korgprop/ic12_v17.bin and korgprop/ic22_v17.bin; or
    • korgprop.zip.

The persistent default location is ~/Library/Application Support/Profligacy/roms on macOS and %APPDATA%\Profligacy\roms on Windows. These are per-user locations; no C:\ path is hardcoded. The LCD character table is a license-clean datasheet reconstruction compiled into the public MAME dependency; no separate LCD ROM is required.

    Installation

Copy the supplied bundles to the conventional per-user locations:

    • AU: ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Profligacy.component
    • VST3: ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Profligacy.vst3
    • Standalone: a location of your choice, such as /Applications

If macOS blocks the checksum-verified download because it is unnotarized, remove quarantine only from the exact extracted bundle you intend to use, for example:

    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/Profligacy.app
    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/Profligacy.component
    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/Profligacy.vst3

Do not apply recursive xattr commands to a broad directory such as /Applications or ~/Library.

On Windows, copy Profligacy.vst3 to your VST3 directory and place Profligacy.exe wherever you keep standalone instruments. The Windows build is an experimental preview and does not include an installer or code signature.

    Known alpha limitations

    • Only one synth engine can be active in a host process. Additional Profligacy instances stay inert.
    • Let editor changes finish applying before saving a DAW project. Pending editor gestures are not part of the saved program.
    • Host automation covers the performance controls and factory Program Change; deep SysEx program fields are not yet exposed as individual parameters.
    • Some unknown or packed SysEx fields are intentionally read-only rather than guessed.
    • DSP output is hardware-corpus-tested, but physical analog output-stage coloration is not yet certified.
    • Intel Macs and macOS releases older than 15.0 are unsupported by this alpha.
    • Windows x64 is supplied as an unsigned experimental preview; macOS arm64 is the primary supported alpha target.
    • The native TMS57002 JIT is the default on both Windows x64 and macOS arm64. For troubleshooting, set PROPHECY_DSP_ENGINE=interpreter before launch.

    Verification scope

The public source includes a 554-case hardware-derived TMS57002 replay corpus, self-contained focused tests, ARM64 interpreter/dynarec equivalence gates, Windows native-JIT telemetry gates, deterministic headless editor/DAW stress tests with exact board-link grading, host validation, editor tests, and publication/licensing audits. Historical underdeclared captures and unavailable research diagnostics are preserved outside the release denominator; they are not represented as current product failures.

    Licensing and source

Profligacy's owned source is AGPL-3.0-only. The release includes corresponding source, pinned JUCE source, the public MAME source/patch recipe, third-party notices, and checksums. Korg firmware and donor NVRAM are never included.

  2. v1.0.0-alpha.7Profligacy 1.0.0 alpha 7Beta4 files

    Profligacy 1.0.0 alpha 7

Profligacy is an independent AU, VST3, and standalone software instrument compatible with user-supplied Korg Prophecy firmware. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Korg.

This prerelease was built from commit aab9edf84047a513ff426578fd7e80a928f591eb.

    Changes in alpha 7

    • Corrected the independent clocks on the Prophecy's internal serial link: 31.25 kbit/s from the V55 and 32 kbit/s from the H8, matching measured hardware.
    • Added the H8/3003 external-bus costs used by the instrument and routed the V55 P33 signal to H8 IRQ1 according to the service-manual wiring and physical traces.
    • Replaced synthetic DSP host-update timing with the TMS57002's native EMPTY state and full 16-word update queue.
    • Corrected the H8 watchdog interval-overflow and overflow-clear behavior.
    • Preserved ordinary MIDI arriving after Program Change; earlier builds could discard two seconds of valid follow-up traffic.
    • Sent front-panel analog controls directly to the modeled hardware input path, removing editor-side throttling from fast wheel and ribbon gestures.
    • Corrected the software ribbon's X direction, momentary pressure, and release behavior. Incoming pitch-bend and modulation-wheel movement is now mirrored in the editor without applying the MIDI twice.
    • Latched very short front-panel LED pulses long enough for the editor to display them reliably without altering emulated hardware timing.
    • Simplified and polished the Program signal-flow view.
    • Expanded deterministic control-path, lifecycle, firmware-version, cross-platform, no-ROM, packaged-product, and publication-safety regression coverage. The retained TMS57002 corpus passes all 554 hardware-oracle cases.

Alpha 7 retains the stability work from earlier alphas, including paced editor SysEx delivery, MIDI fixes, native TMS57002 JIT improvements, and the Windows WebView2 editor fix.

    Downloads and extraction

Download the ZIP for your platform and its matching .sha256 file. Verify the checksum before installation.

On macOS, either double-click the ZIP in Finder or run:

    shasum -a 256 -c Profligacy-1.0.0-alpha.7-macOS-arm64.zip.sha256
    ditto -x -k Profligacy-1.0.0-alpha.7-macOS-arm64.zip Profligacy-alpha7

On Windows, compare the output of this PowerShell command with the published .sha256 file, then right-click the ZIP and choose Extract All:

    Get-FileHash .\Profligacy-1.0.0-alpha.7-Windows-x64-experimental.zip -Algorithm SHA256

    Installation

macOS bundles can be copied to these conventional per-user locations:

    • AU: ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Profligacy.component
    • VST3: ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Profligacy.vst3
    • Standalone: a location of your choice, such as /Applications

The macOS build is ad-hoc signed but not Developer ID signed or notarized. If macOS blocks the checksum-verified download, remove quarantine only from the exact extracted bundle you intend to use:

    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/Profligacy.app
    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/Profligacy.component
    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/Profligacy.vst3

Do not apply recursive xattr commands to a broad directory such as /Applications or ~/Library.

On Windows, copy Profligacy.vst3 to your VST3 directory and place Profligacy.exe wherever you keep standalone instruments. The Windows x64 build is an unsigned experimental preview and may trigger SmartScreen; it has no installer.

    Firmware

Korg firmware is not distributed with Profligacy. On first launch, point the folder picker at a directory containing either:

    • korgprop/ic12_v17.bin and korgprop/ic22_v17.bin; or
    • korgprop.zip containing those files.

The persistent default location is ~/Library/Application Support/Profligacy/roms on macOS and %APPDATA%\Profligacy\roms on Windows.

    Supported systems

    • Native Apple Silicon (arm64), macOS 15.0 or later: AU, VST3, and standalone
    • Experimental Windows x64 preview: VST3 and standalone

    Known alpha limitations

    • Only one synth engine can be active in a host process; additional Profligacy instances remain inert.
    • DAW bounce/render must use real-time 1x. Unrestricted offline rendering can be silent.
    • Host automation for the deep SysEx editor is not yet exposed.
    • Some unknown or packed SysEx fields are intentionally read-only.
    • DSP output is hardware-corpus-tested, but physical post-DAC analog coloration is not modeled.
    • Intel Macs and macOS releases older than 15.0 are unsupported by this alpha.
    • A narrow, phase-dependent firmware scheduling window can defer a parameter update until the following roughly 4 ms host-transfer pass. The transaction and DSP command remain intact.

The native TMS57002 JIT is the default on Windows x64 and macOS arm64. For troubleshooting, set PROPHECY_DSP_ENGINE=interpreter before launch.

    Licensing and source

Profligacy's owned source is AGPL-3.0-only. The packages include corresponding source, pinned JUCE source, the public MAME source/patch recipe, third-party notices, and checksums. Korg firmware and donor NVRAM are not included.

  3. v1.0.0-alpha.6Profligacy 1.0.0 alpha 6Beta4 files

    Profligacy 1.0.0 alpha 6

Profligacy is an independent AU, VST3, and standalone software instrument compatible with user-supplied Korg Prophecy firmware. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Korg.

    Changes in alpha 6

    • Added a guarded delivery invariant for the Prophecy's internal V55-to-H8 serial link. A completed V55 transmit byte remains pending until H8 SCI0 accepts it; after a stable idle, error-free delivery deficit, the missing byte is delivered through the normal H8 receive-data and interrupt path. This prevents the observed control freeze in which the final two bytes of a four-byte command disappeared while audio continued.
    • Added a deterministic two-frame fault gate for that failure. With the guard disabled it reproduces the unresponsive control path with two bytes pending and no SCI errors; with the guard enabled exactly two deliveries are repaired and the editor remains responsive. Normal 44.1, 48, and 96 kHz stress runs complete with zero repairs and zero delivery-queue overflows.
    • The lower-level cause of the rare callback/event disappearance is not yet identified. Alpha 6 therefore treats this as a narrowly gated stability safeguard rather than claiming the scheduler mechanism itself is fixed.
    • Retains alpha 5's paced editor SysEx path and board-link stress coverage, alpha 4's MIDI-stability fixes, alpha 3's native TMS57002 JIT improvements, and alpha 2's WebView2 editor fix.

    Supported systems

    • Native Apple Silicon (arm64)
    • macOS 15.0 or later

  4. v1.0.0-alpha.5Profligacy 1.0.0 alpha 5Beta4 files

    Profligacy 1.0.0 alpha 5

Profligacy is an independent AU, VST3, and standalone software instrument compatible with user-supplied Korg Prophecy firmware. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Korg.

    Changes in alpha 5

    • Fixed a cross-CPU scheduler race that could silently change a byte on the Prophecy's internal V55/H8 serial link without raising a UART error. Both directions now deliver line edges through a scheduler-synchronised boundary.
    • Bounded and paced the editor's shared SysEx command traffic. Rapid patch browsing is latest-wins, obsolete edit-buffer work is cancelled, patch loads are isolated from overlapping editor and DAW Program Changes, and program dumps require generation-matched recovery.
    • Added an exact board-link byte oracle plus deterministic rapid-patch, editor-boundary, pairwise, mixed DAW/editor storm, replay, and negative-control workloads to the existing headless stress runner.
    • Retained the alpha 4 MIDI-stability fixes, alpha 3 native TMS57002 JIT improvements, and alpha 2 WebView2 editor fix.

    Supported systems

    Profligacy 1.0.0 alpha 4

Profligacy is an independent AU, VST3, and standalone software instrument compatible with user-supplied Korg Prophecy firmware. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Korg.

    Changes in alpha 4

    • Fixed a phase-sensitive timing fault in the emulated V55-to-H8 serial link that could make MIDI transfers stop responding after Program Changes or an extended playing/editing session while audio continued.
    • Hardened the compensated stop-bit timing across receiver clock phases after a long headless soak exposed a second instance beyond the original exact-tie fix.
    • Added a deterministic DAW-style MIDI stress runner, control-path health heartbeats, and a low-overhead board-link flight recorder so future stalls can be reproduced and diagnosed without GUI interaction.
    • Retained the alpha 3 native TMS57002 JIT performance improvements and the alpha 2 WebView2 editor fix.

    Supported systems

    • Native Apple Silicon (arm64)
    • macOS 15.0 or later

    Profligacy 1.0.0 alpha 3

Profligacy is an independent AU, VST3, and standalone software instrument compatible with user-supplied Korg Prophecy firmware. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Korg.

    Changes in alpha 3

    • Enabled the repaired native TMS57002 JIT by default on Windows x64. On the release test system this raised sustained whole-emulator throughput from about 1.50x to 1.98x real time; the portable interpreter remains available as a troubleshooting fallback.
    • Kept native DSP execution active throughout firmware coefficient packet upload and application. The focused coefficient-loading workload improved by about 40% on Windows x64 and 41% on Apple Silicon, and removing the remaining CLOAD-active fallback churn added about 4.4% in an Apple Silicon dense-control core benchmark, with byte-identical audio.
    • Retained the alpha 2 WebView2 editor fix and its packaged Windows editor gates.

    Supported systems

    • Native Apple Silicon (arm64)
    • macOS 15.0 or later
    • AU, VST3, and standalone formats

    • The native TMS57002 JIT is the default on both Windows x64 and macOS arm64. For troubleshooting, set PROPHECY_DSP_ENGINE=interpreter before launch.

    Verification scope

The public source includes a 554-case hardware-derived TMS57002 replay corpus, 23 self-contained focused tests, ARM64 interpreter/dynarec equivalence gates, Windows native-JIT telemetry gates, host validation, editor tests, and publication/licensing audits.

  7. v1.0.0-alpha.2Profligacy 1.0.0 alpha 2Beta4 files

    Profligacy 1.0.0 alpha 2

Profligacy is an independent AU, VST3, and standalone software instrument compatible with user-supplied Korg Prophecy firmware. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Korg.

    Changes in alpha 2

    • Fixed the Windows standalone and VST3 editors selecting JUCE's legacy browser backend instead of Microsoft Edge WebView2, which could display a "JUCE backend page was not found" error.
    • Added Windows release gates that open the packaged standalone and VST3 editors through WebView2 before a release candidate can pass.

    Supported systems

    • Native Apple Silicon (arm64)
    • macOS 15.0 or later
    • AU, VST3, and standalone formats
    • Experimental Windows x64 preview: VST3 and standalone

The macOS public alpha is ad-hoc signed. It is not Developer ID signed or notarized by Apple. The Windows preview is unsigned and may trigger SmartScreen. Verify the release asset's published SHA-256 before installing either package.

    Firmware

Korg firmware is not distributed with Profligacy. On first launch, use the built-in folder picker to select a directory containing either:

    • korgprop/ic12_v17.bin and korgprop/ic22_v17.bin; or
    • korgprop.zip.

The persistent default location is ~/Library/Application Support/Profligacy/roms. The LCD character table is a license-clean datasheet reconstruction compiled into the public MAME dependency; no separate LCD ROM is required.

    Installation

Copy the supplied bundles to the conventional per-user locations:

    • AU: ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Profligacy.component
    • VST3: ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Profligacy.vst3
    • Standalone: a location of your choice, such as /Applications

If macOS blocks the checksum-verified download because it is unnotarized, remove quarantine only from the exact extracted bundle you intend to use, for example:

    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/Profligacy.app
    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/Profligacy.component
    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/Profligacy.vst3

Do not apply recursive xattr commands to a broad directory such as /Applications or ~/Library.

On Windows, copy Profligacy.vst3 to your VST3 directory and place Profligacy.exe wherever you keep standalone instruments. The Windows build is an experimental preview and does not include an installer or code signature.

    Known alpha limitations

    • Only one synth engine can be active in a host process. Additional Profligacy instances stay inert.
    • DAW bounce/render must use real-time 1x. Unrestricted offline rendering can be silent.
    • Host automation for the deep SysEx editor is not yet exposed.
    • The Windows alpha uses the conservative TMS57002 interpreter. The pooled x64 JIT is disabled pending investigation of an access violation exposed by the clean-room DSP sentinel; macOS arm64 continues to use and validate its JIT.

    Verification scope

The public source includes a 554-case hardware-derived TMS57002 replay corpus, 23 self-contained focused tests, ARM64 interpreter/dynarec equivalence gates, host validation, editor tests, and publication/licensing audits.
