  1. v0.6Bass Something 2 v0.6Beta2 files

A monosynth inspired by the legendary Novation Bass Station II, built for the M-VAVE FM-1. It's also a companion for Cyma Forma's RND Synth (seeds, locks and a track mixer), and it runs on an iPhone or iPad in RemoteFM1.

    What's new

    • REC from any page: tap REC to start or stop recording into the sequencer wherever you are. REC lights while recording and the bottom strip shows SEQ REC and the step (n/32).
    • Randomize: hold REC for a second for a random sound. A card shows four knobs whirling to a stop as it lands.
    • Hints for taps and holds: with Hints on, each section's button tells you where its next tap goes and what holding it does, such as "GLO tap: System, hold: RND Synth Companion".
    • RND Synth Companion splash: the RND pages open on a short splash of the RND Synth beside the FM-1. Press any button or turn a knob to skip it. The pages' bar now reads RND SYNTH COMPANION.
    • A cleaner HOME: the panel is flat and centred, with even margins. The patch display reaches the right edge, and the Transpose and Function buttons are gone. The keys' strip is centred on every page.
    • New first-install defaults: MIDI channel 1, CC channel 1, SEND CLK on and Hints on.

Patches and settings you have saved on your FM-1 are kept.

This is still an early release.

    Install

    • On the FM-1, in the browser (Chrome or Edge on a computer): the installer. Back up your FM-1 first.
    • On the FM-1, from a terminal, in an fm1-base checkout: python3 tools/fm1_install.py bass-something-2-0.6.fwsc
    • On an iPhone or iPad: put bass_something_2-0.6.rfm1 in RemoteFM1's firmware folder.

    Package identity FM-1_62000600. SHA-256:

    • bass-something-2-0.6.fwsc: d3b08a1f93f1c2f111007b0a65d14051e5eb22fc84bf0e04bee1f6a0fc9094d9

The emulator runs the same firmware in the browser. The manual covers every control.

    Building it

In an fm1-base checkout (d8ff8f4, felucca-bsp 305c372) with the two patches in platform/ applied: see the README. The patches are also open as upstream pull requests (felucca-bsp #19 and #20, fm1-base #15, #16 and #17).

  2. v0.5Bass Something 2 v0.5Beta2 files

A monosynth inspired by the legendary Novation Bass Station II, built for the M-VAVE FM-1. It's also a companion for Cyma Forma's RND Synth (seeds, locks and a track mixer), and it runs on an iPhone or iPad in RemoteFM1.

    What's new

    • Knob Zoom: turn an encoder and the screen eases in on the control it sets, so you can see it up close. It eases back out a second after you stop. Turn it off in GLOBAL DISPLAY.
    • Dive from HOME: send a MIDI CC while HOME is showing and the screen dives in one smooth move into the page that holds that control, then rises back out to the whole panel.
    • A scope on HOME: the synth's output, drawn live as you play. The bottom strip now shows the tempo (cyan while the arp or sequencer runs) and what's playing (ARP UP, SEQ PLAY and so on).
    • GLOBAL DISPLAY: Knob Zoom on or off, Hints (the few words on what each control does, which used to be called Manual Mode) and how long pop-ups stay, each where its encoder sits. The GLO pages now run MIDI, SYSTEM, DISPLAY, then DUMP.
    • Cleaner type and layout: names that used to run into each other are now apart (FILTERS' Overdrive and Resonance, the LFOs' Delay and speeds), and switch and knob names along a row now line up.
    • Smaller changes: Triggering is on K4 in the ENVELOPES section, the Waveform knob follows the panel's order (sine, triangle, saw, square, pulse) and HOME's unsaved dot sits by the patch digits.

Patches and settings you have saved on your FM-1 are kept.

This is still an early release.

  3. v0.4Bass Something 2 v0.4Beta2 files

A monosynth inspired by the legendary Novation Bass Station II, built for the M-VAVE FM-1. It's also a companion for Cyma Forma's RND Synth (seeds, locks and a track mixer), and it runs on an iPhone or iPad in RemoteFM1.

    What's new

    • HOME, the whole panel at a glance: the HOME button (and the page the FM-1 now starts on) shows the patch in large red digits, what's playing and the tempo, and under them a Bass Station II's whole front panel, drawn to the scale of the keys at the foot of the screen. Every knob, fader, switch and LED on it shows the sound as it's set and follows it as you change it on the other pages. PRESET picks the patch there, as on MASTER.
    • Encoders where they sit: on every page the controls go to the FM-1 encoders that match their place on the screen: K1–K4 from the right, and SELECT, ALGO and PRESET as they're laid out on the FM-1. SEL opens MASTER from any page that doesn't use it for something else.
    • Oscillators and mixer together on EDIT: EDIT steps through OSCILLATORS, PULSE WIDTH, then SUB OSC + MIXER, in the Bass Station II panel's order. Osc Select is on the SELECT encoder, and Sync 1-2 is on the pulse width's page.
    • Control labels and value pop-ups: as a page opens, each control is labelled for a moment with the FM-1 encoder or button that sets it. A knob's value shows on the control as you turn it.
    • Manual Mode: turn it on in GLOBAL DISPLAY (GLO's new fourth page) for a few words on what each knob does as you turn it, and on what each button does as you press it. GLOBAL DISPLAY also sets how long the pop-ups stay.
    • Holds instead of combos: hold ARP or SEQ for a second to turn AFX on or off. Hold GLO to open the RND pages, and hold it again to go back.
    • RND Synth remote: three pages for Cyma Forma's RND Synth (firmware 1.4) on the FM-1's MIDI: 32 slots of seeds and locks with their word names (RND SEED), its patch type, tracks, root, octave and scale locks (RND PATCH), and a mixer for its four tracks (RND TRACKS).
    • More room: 5.7 KB of RAM freed for what comes next.

Patches and settings you have saved on your FM-1 are kept. The RND seed slots start empty.

This is still an early release.

  4. v0.3Bass Something 2 v0.3Beta2 files

A monosynth inspired by the legendary Novation Bass Station II, built for the M-VAVE FM-1. It also runs on an iPhone or iPad in RemoteFM1.

    What's new

    • New factory patches: 32 sounds of Bass Something 2's own: ten basses (P01–P10), ten leads (P11–P20) and twelve showing off the rest of the synth, including arpeggios, sample and hold, pads, effects, ring mod, FM and sync (P21–P32). They replace ULTIMATE PATCHES Volume 2. The manual's section 6 lists them all. Patches you have saved on your FM-1 are kept.
    • MIDI clock's tempo shown: while the FM-1 follows MIDI clock, GLO SYSTEM shows the incoming tempo, measured every two beats. The ARP page's Tempo knob follows it too, labelled MIDI clock. The patch keeps its own tempo for when the clock stops.
    • Send SysEx without pauses: a whole bank sent as fast as the computer can send it now arrives complete. The FM-1 queues incoming SysEx and holds the computer back while it catches up, where it used to drop messages that came too close together. Firmware updates go through the same queue.

This is still an early release.

  5. v0.2Bass Something 2 v0.2Beta2 files

A monosynth inspired by the legendary Novation Bass Station II, built for the M-VAVE FM-1. It now runs on an iPhone or iPad too, in RemoteFM1.

    What's new

    • The Bass Station II panel on every page: each section drawn as the BS2's panel, with its knobs, switches and LEDs, in the BS2's grouping and in one cyan. The extras a BS2 doesn't have sit on mod plates at the end of each section.
    • More of the Bass Station II: its fixed LFO routing, the envelopes' triggering (Multi, Single, Autoglide), retrigger and fixed sustain, the LFOs' delay, slew, keysync and sync, Osc Filter Mod, distortion before the VCA, the VCA limiter (patch format 13; older patches convert)
    • External input: the computer's USB audio through the filter and amp, with MIX FX's EXT level (from 0, it plays straight through as before)
    • MASTER: Save, the Org. Value arrows, and a patch change keeps the arp and sequencer playing
    • Knob response (GLO SYSTEM, KNOBS: FINE, NORMAL, FAST, COARSE): the knobs speed up as you turn them faster
    • Battery under OCT on every page: three bars, or a bolt on USB power
    • GLOBAL: the clock settings together on GLO SYSTEM (Sync, Send Clk), Bluetooth on GLO MIDI
    • SysEx page on the site: get and send sounds and banks from the browser
    • Fixes: a chord struck together could make no sound; the FX button no longer enters rests when the sequencer was left recording

This is still an early release.
